May 21, 2011: Are you ready?

July 28 - harold_camping-2011 I was surfing through Comcast's cavalcade of countless channels the other day when I happened upon Harold Camping and his Family Radio Network.

Oh boy. The guy stopped me in my tracks. Harold Camping is a televangelist with a terrible twist.

Unlike his peers, Harold Camping does not pack a positive punch. Camping is no Joel Osteen with a set of pearly whites to go along with his message of do good and make money in this lifetime. No sir. No way. Not this televangelist. He doesn't have the time.

That's because 88-year-old Harold Camping is laser-focused on the end of days. He's close to the end and he wants to make sure we know we're close to the end of our days as well.

In fact, Harold knows the exact date of his end, and ours: May 21, 2011. Yup, May 21, 2011. Camping's pieced together various Bible passages that, he says, pinpoint May 21, 2011, as the end of the world. He says 5-21-11 is the date when the 'Rapture' will begin.

If I heard him correctly, the Rapture is a period of 155 straight days of nasty, horrible and terrible things that will beset Planet Earth (think: locusts, floods, long-standing PR accounts going up for review, etc.).

Happily, though, Brother Camping and his devoted followers will survive. Nay, thrive. And, when the 155 days are over, Brother Camping & Co. will ascend to Heaven and all the good things that go with it (Christianity's version of Islam's 73 virgins?).

News flash: Brother Camping is the latest in a long line of prophets, fakirs and whatnots who have predicted the end of days. Sane people ignore them. But, the vulnerable do not. And therein lies the issue. Far too many people buy into the end of days mythology and end up selling their worldly possessions (Think: Jonestown, Waco and others). Real people with real problems get badly hurt when a Brother Camping decides it's time to cash in his (and others') chips.

And what happens when the end of days doesn't happen? Well, the Brother Campings of the world just end up blaming others for the apocalypse that wasn't. And the devoted find a new prophet with a new dire prediction.

It's so sad and, in some individual cases, apocalyptic. And, from an image and reputation standpoint, just further tarnishes the overall image and reputation of organized religion.

  1. THE END OF THE WORLD IS ALMOST HERE! HOLY GOD WILL BRING JUDGMENT DAY ON MAY 21, 2011.
Judgment day is feared by the world and is the day that God will destoy the world because of the sins of mankind. The world is correct in believing that judgment day will come. The Bible gives us the correct and accurate information about that day.
The Bible is the Holy Book written by Holy God who is the Creator of this beautiful world. The Holy Bible is without question a very ancient book, having been completed about 1,900 years ago. In it’s original languages (mostly Hebrew and Greek) One of the books is named 2 Timothy 3:16.
“All scriptures is God breathed, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.
Since the Bible is God breathed it brings the full force of the power of God to save mankind by His word and His Spirit, John 3:5. Since the Bible tells us,” Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” One must be under the hearing of the word of God for God the holy Spirit to apply His word to the heart of a person whom He wills to save. Now this could be anyone of us here? We do not know whom God will save. Salvation is all the work of God. John 6:29.
God draws the one to whom He will save to His word, the word of God is the source book of truth. I would encourge all to read the word of God seeking and beging the Lord for wisdom and understanding.
“Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.” Read Psalm 51.
This is one reason why I don’t like to give you my view points they really don’t mean much at all maybe as much as a hill of beans? However, when you hear the word of God this is coming from the very image of God. 2 Cor. 4:3-4.
“But if our gospel be HID, it is HID to them that are lost. In whom the god of this world (Satan) hath blinded the minds of them which belive NOT, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the IMAGE OF GOD, should shine unto them.”
You see the word of God is the very image of God Himself, Wow, this is amazing. The true gospel is hid to them that are lost those they are not open to the word of truth. The Bible or the word of God is the power unto salvation.
“For I am not ASHAMED of the gospel of Christ: for it is the POWER OF GOD unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16.
No man is wiser than God, So listen to Him rather than man. Who can tell? Maybe God will have mercy on us? Romans 9.Thank you.

  2. A statement was made in the past few e-mails that said,
“You may believe whatever you like, people who thought the sun revolved and the world was flat is down right ridiculas”
I agree with you. If we would have went to the scoursr book of truth (the word of God) we would have known a long time agao that the world was a (ciricle)
“It is he that sitteth upon the CIRICLE of the earth, and the inhabitations thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.” Isaiah 40:22
These are not my words or Harold Camping words but they come from the very mouth of God. God tels us the earth is a “ciricle” this earth here is like a mere tent in the eyes of God for mankind.
We all need a standard to go by, the carpenter uses a ruler to measure, a machinest uses a micromiter to measure tolerance, and the person who is looking for the way,the truth, and life looks into the word of God which is called the devine standard of truth. We all have a peanut mind against the infinte mind of God. How could it be that God can speak and bring this world into existence just by His word? God is all power and very soon we all will see the power of God in an open display. ARE WE READY? Thank you.

  3. Anon,
One is not saved because they do not believe what Mr. Camping or any man teaches.Salvation is a miracle of God.God says in his word that he will have mercy on whom he will have mercy.Romans 9:15For he saith to Moses, I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.
16So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy. It is only the mercy of God that one is saved.God uses his word to save man.It is not what man says.Roman 10:17 teaches. So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.The problem through out time is that we tend to listen to what man teaches and not check it out with the bible the word of God,that is where we will find truth. It is God that is the pillar and ground for the truth.God has given us teachers but they have feet of clay that is why we must check it out in the bible.2Tim3:16 Teaches: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Man is dead in sin,we are like a corpse, dead.We can not come to God on our own and we never would unless God performes a miracle.Jn.6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.a good example of what salvation is was Lazerus.Lazerus was DEAD he was a stinking rotten corpse. We are spiritually dead. God says:Eph.2:3 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;verse5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)Quicken means make alive and it is God that must make us alive, there is not a single thing man can do to get himself saved.Oh ya,man has his own gospel.Man teaches if we get our selfs baptized or do many works or accept Jesus as their saviour and on and on then they can become saved. That is a gospel that will lead one to hell. And that is what is being taught in the churches today.A do it yourself gospel.
So when you say if one does not believe Mr.Camping one can not be saved. That would be trusting in man and that would surly lead to hell.Anon,Man hates this gospel, the true gospel. It puts God in complete control.Man from the beginning always wanted to be in control of his salvation.Remember when Adam wanted to cover himself with a leaf?God said no,He would provide the covering.God provided an animal skin.It was the first sacrifice pointing to Christ dying for the sins of those He came to save.Adam was a good picture of man wanting do help in getting him self saved.

  4. why is this information so hard for people to understand.i have never been in the bible, although i believed i was born again 6 years ago. Now why is it that all that i was taught since i was a child, i have now found out that it was all a lie. Mr Camping is just doing what he believes in his heart. For all those who dont want to see it,well the bible also says that only a fraction will be saved, and for this reason its because not everyone will see whats in the bible because they believe what they know is the truth. I an grateful that i have found out this information,so that i can ask for mercy up until the end instead of looking like an idiot when my LORD comes back for me. I will be ready because i knew that he was coming, instead of most of the world who will be like deers with head lights in their eyes. 5212011

  5. So every other devout person, regardless of race, color or creed is doomed unless he or she buys into Brother Camping’s fuzzy math? Not a very gracious or loving thing by God. Also, I’m still hoping for an answer to my question about the end of days: does it apply only to Earthlings of extra terrestrials as well?

  6. Dave, Anon, et al: Question: do you see May 21, 2011, as the end of days for the Earth alone or the universe as a whole? Should E.T. and his ilk be concerned that the end is near?

  7. Thank you.
    So, Harold Camping teaches that;
The tribulation is 23 years instead of 2300 evenings and mornings.
The end of the tribulation is not concurrent with the return of Christ.
The tribulation is not a physical tribulation, but a spiritual one.
All congregations are apostate as of 1994.
Although the tribulation ends and the believers are raptured on May 21, 2011 the earth continues to exist for another 155 days.
By failing to confess Harold Camping’s teachings regarding the end times, one demonstrates that one is unsaved regardless of what else one confesses and what other fruits of belief are demonstrated in that person’s life.
On top of this, Harold Camping was the only remaining true prophet of God, and his listeners the only true believers.

  8. Dave or Gary…I don’t know if you guys are tennis fans but Venus and Serena Williams dad has been wearing a hat that says “Jehovah is my God”…does Mr. Williams have any chance for heaven when the final day comes. And if not where would the Almighty place the Williams patriarch? Also how do you guys feel about Bill Maher and his movie that shows that the Bible was a lot of bull shit.

  9. Anon,
Correction must be made to my post of 9/5/09.I said:23hundred days is changed to 23 hundred years which would take us to May 21,2011.I should have said the 23 hundred days is said to be 23 years.(not 23 hundred years)Being 1988 as the start of the tribulation and 23 years latter comes the rapture May 21 2011.Sorry for the confusion.
    Dave

  10. The 7,000 years is one time path that relates to the folllowing verse in 2 Peter
2Pe 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day [is] with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
2Pe is in the context of the Noachin Flood of which Noah was warned seven days before God destroyed the world.
Gen 7:4 For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
Gen 7:5 And Noah did according unto all that the LORD commanded him.

  11. You may believe whatever nonsense you’d like. Believing in the literal words of a book written thousands of years ago by people who thought the sun revolved around earth and the world is flat is downright ridiculous.
See you on May 22, 2011.

  12. Dear all”
No one likes to talk about this kind of information. Nothing could be more demoralizing. It is far easier to live in complete denial, secretly hoping that all of this talk of judgment day is just talk and is not to be taken seriously. However, when we know that the Bible is absolutely true and authoritative, we are commanded to tell the world all that the Bible teaches concerning that awesome event. The true belivers in Christ have no option. They must warn the world of impending judgment. The prophet, for example, was commanded by God to go to Nineveh to warn that wicked city that in 40 days, God would destroy them. Jonah was not at all happy to take that terrible news to Nineveh, but, finally, he did obey. Wonderfully, the people of Nineveh repented and humbly pleaded with God, hoping that God would have mercy on them. And God did have mercy on them, and God did not destroy their city.
The situation is the same today, except the whole world is in view. The time is less than two years, rather than 40 days. While the whole city of Nineveh repented, the whole world of our day will not repent. However, the good news is that the Bible declares that a great multitude, which no man could number, will humble plead with God for mercy, and a great harvest of people, whom God has chosen to save, will be given eternal life, and they will escape the judgment of God, which they deserve because of their sins.
However, once God does save them by His mercy and grace and now they see the sword coming upon the world what are they to do?
“Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the SWORD upon the land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman: If when he seeth the SWORD (judgment) come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; Then whosoever HEARETH the sound of the trumpet, (the warning) and taketh not WARNING; If the SWORD (the warning of impending judgment) come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. He heard the sound of the trumpet, (judgment, the sword is coming) and took NOT warning; his blood shall be upon HIM. But he that taketh warning shall deliver his soul. But if the WATCHMAN see the sword come, and blow not the trunpet, and the people be warned; If the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the WATCHMAN’S HAND.”
So the question is? Do we have a choice in this matter of warning the people the sword of the wrath of God is about to come upon the whole world in less than 20 months? The true believer cannot stop because he wants nothing but the highest good for all those who take heed to this warning. The highest good is salvation of a sin sick soul. Thank you.

  13. Dear all:
“For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall sy, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape” 1 Thes. 5:2-3.
But then the Bible says in verse 4-6.
“But ye, brethen, are not in darkness, that that day, should OVERTAKE you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us WATCH and be sober.”
These verses are teaching that there are two kinds of people in the world who realize that this world will come to an end, at which time God will seperate the saved from the unsaved. Both groups know the unsaved will experience the full wrath of God, and that those who have become saved will be forever with Christ in the greatest happiness and glory.
One group includes many people who belive thy are saved, but in reality, they are not saved. They are not aware that in our day, God has revealed, in the Bible, a great amount of information that relates to the timeline of history, all the way to the end of the world, and they do not care to try to learn all that the Bible teaches. They are confident that they have become saved, and therefore, it really makes no difference when Christ will return. For them, He will return as a thief in the night. But sadly, these verses teach that when Christ returns, “sudden destruction” will come upon them. By their lack of interest in wanting to know as much as possable about what the Bible teacges, they are demonstrating that they are not saved, and they are subject to the awful wrath of God. But there are also many people who, because of their love and respect for the Bible, have learned that the Bible gives much information about the timeline of history. Thus, they have learned a great many details concerning end time events. The Bible speaks of them as “watchmen” (Ezekiel 33:2-3), in that they are able to WARN the unsaved of the world of the impending end of the world, which is so near.” Thank you.

  14. Anon,
I think you are correct.I believe the 155 days should be 153 days.I think Mr Camping came to the 1994 as the date was the scripture in:
    Matthew 24:22
And except those days should be SHORTENED, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be SHORTENED.
Mr.Camping I believe thought it was 2011 because he mentioned it 5 times in the book 1994 but because of Matt24:22 He thought those days would be shortened.I believe the 23hundred days is changed to 23 hundred years which would take us to May 21 2011.There are places in the bible where God has used a day as a year.
    Dave

  15. Nevertheless, it is still necessary to go outside the Bible to prove that 1 year is equal to exactly 365.2422 days. Apparently, Harold Camping wasn’t opposed to it in this situation.
Semantics aside, please bear with me here and confirm something. According to Harold Camping’s exegesis the tribulation began in 1988 and was supposed to last 2300 evenings and mornings, which would set the date for the return of Christ on September 6, 1994. Obviously Jesus didn’t return then so Mr. Camping said a mistake was made and the tribulation would be 23 years instead of 2300 evening and mornings. This would bring the date of the end of the tribulation to May 21, 2011. The believers will be raptured on that date but Christ will not return just yet. Instead, another 155 days will pass before the actual return of Christ and during that time a series of cataclysmic events will take place on the earth, what Camping refers to as a “judgement”. Similarly, the significance of September 6, 1994 was changed from the return of Christ to the beginning of the “judgement of the churches”, in Camping’s words.
Is this an accurate (albeit undetailed) general assessment of what Harold Camping teaches regarding the end times? I want to make sure I am not misunderstanding what he is saying.

  16. Anon,
Antime we learn something we can’t take credit for it.God has allowed us to learn things, He created us.When we learned that a year is 365.2422 days is because God allowed us to learn it.E=mc2 was always their but it was God that gave Einstein the mind to see it.
When we see that May 21 2011 is the start of judgement it was God that allowed us to see it.It was always in the bible but during theses last days God has removed the seals. We must give God the credit.
    Dave

  17. What I meant is that it is not explicitly stated in the Bible that 1 year is equal to 365.2422 days, so it is necessary to go outside the Bible to discover this fact. God created energy and matter, but you won’t find Einstein’s famous equation E=mc2 anywhere in scripture. In that sense, it would have to be considered an extra-Biblical truth.

  18. Anon,
Using 365.2422 for a year is not going outside the bible. It is going by the bible.we are using Gods time piece.God created the heavens and earth. He placed the sun, moon and stars in their place. It takes 365.2422 days for the earth to revolve around the sun and that would be a complete year according to Gods calender
    .
Gen.1:14And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night;AND LET THEM BE FOR SIGNS, and for SEASONS, and for DAYS, and YEARS:
15And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.
16And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.
17And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,
18And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.
When we arrive at 4990BC being the time of the flood we are using only the bible. To get a complete explanation of this you can call or download “Adam When” at Familyradio.com.

  19. Quick question, Anon. D asked how a football field-sized ark could have possibly held the tens of thousands of types of species necessary to re-populate the world after the flood. He raises a good point. How do you respond?
